How to get the best possible portrait
The sharper and clearer your photos, the better the portrait. Keep each photo under 15MB — please resize anything larger before uploading.
Include a range of angles — front-on, left side, right side, and three-quarter views. Your pet needn’t be perfectly posed; candid shots often capture character beautifully.
Eye-level shots work best. Get down to your pet’s level rather than shooting from above — this gives us the proportions we need.
Good natural light makes a huge difference. Avoid flash and avoid low-light or backlit photos where the face is in shadow.
A sharp face is essential. Motion blur or heavy bokeh on the head is the single biggest obstacle — use burst mode to catch a still moment.
Include any distinctive markings, patches or features in a close-up, and describe them in the special instructions below.
Your pet should be the main subject in each photo — please crop out other animals or people beforehand.
Photos taken over different occasions are fine, as long as your pet looks roughly the same in each.
